Acyclovir if someones using this medicine? they have herpes so if the guy who's taking this medicine has herpes but doesn't have an outbreak and if he's not having sex but has touched a girl's vagina with his penis what are the chances of him transferring the herpes to the girl?

flexcavano replied: "People with herpes can infect whether they have an outbreak or not. However, the amount of time a person is "shedding" is usually less than the time they'd have an actual outbreak. On average, you could estimate somewhere between 1 and 5 days out of the year that this would be possible. If they're on Acyclovir the chances are on the lower side. Also, if someone is shedding, it doesn't necessarily mean you will contract herpes, but yes, you very well may. To put it another way, it's possible, but odds are good you won't."

How long do antiviral medicine side effects start to kick in? I'm on acyclovir or something medicine for shingles. The side effects are upset stomach/vomitting, and I really hope I don't vomit. I'm on my 4th dosage, and I haven't really had any side effects yet...does that mean that I am okay? When do side effects usually kick in?

sarah h replied: "it is a anti viral drug. It is not only for herpes. My doctor gave it to my mother who had a virus that would not go away. It also cleared up a canker sore that I had gotten from my braces. Don't jump to conclusions. Look up it's uses on line."

♥fluffybunnyears replied: "It could be for cold sores or fever blisters. I get fever blisters and have since I was about 5 years old. Recently I was prescribed acyclovir. I think more physicians are prescribing it for that purpose. Now, fever blisters are a form of herpes, like chicken pox and shingles are as well. So to answer your question, yes, she probably has herpes but maybe not the genital kind. Isn't your business one way or the other though. It really wasn't very nice of you to be rummaging in your mom's medicine cabinet. Some things should be considered off limits and I think you stumbled onto one of those area's."

MH replied: "acyclovir is an antiviral drug used for a variety of reasons, most commonly herpes. The name herpes does not automatically mean it is the genital form. Have you ever had a cold sore? thats herpes too, just a different strain of the virus. Acyclovir is given for genital herpes. It is also given for "Herpes Zoster" (shingles) - this is basically reinfection in adulthood by the chicken pox virus. Acyclovir is also given for the common cold sore!! even if it is genital herpes in this case, the thing you have to remember is that it is not necessary that your mother got the infection after divorce. Genital herpes is a "recurrent" infection, which means that it is never cured, just becomes subdued to emerge at another time. so she may have been infected 2, 3, 4, 10 or even more years ago and was experiencing a relapse."

Will taking acyclovir postpone your period? I had unprotected sex 2 days before my period. From that, I received genital herpes and a few days later I took acyclovir (for the herpes), will the medicine make me be late for my next period or could I be pregnant, even though I did have my period 2 days after the sex?

Kevin H replied: "This is an anti viral drug. I don't think it can affect your period. Since you had your period after sex, wait and see if you miss your next one. If so, take an HPT.."

Will I get sick if I stop taking acyclovir? prescribed before my negative test results came back.? Nurse told me to finish the medicine even through the test results are negative because I already started. Seems wrong. Plus it makes my stomach hurt.

BedOfRoses replied: "It's going to make your stomach hurt, I have to take mine with food. Not an entire meal, but something small like a sandwich or a hot dog. If your test came back negative then you are in the clear for being a carrier. You should still finish the medication to help your system prevent the virus from forming. know seems redundant, but trust me it will help."

Will antiviral medicine for oral herpes affect birth control? My birth control is Loestrin24 FE My antiviral is Acyclovir. anyone have any idea?

Can you mix adderall and acyclovir? Is it safe to mix my add medicine with what the doctor gave me for shingles?

Medicine for cold sores working or not? So, i went to the doctor yesterday and they prescribed me with Acyclovir and that's supposed to make them go away and now they feel like scabs and there's blisters coming up and like one of the cold sores are kinda of like coming off of my face with the puffed up skin around it, should i like take it off or just leave it alone?

valtrex and acyclovir? okay, I admit I was doing some snooping and found prescription valtrex and acyclovir in a friend's medicine cabinet from what I found on the internet, both seem to be treatment for some kind of herpes. what is the possibility of this being genital herpes? can either be prescribed for anything else? also, is it bad for them to kiss me on the cheek? because they have been for a while now.

jared h replied: "Valtrex is for herpes, but there are different kinds of herpes. I wrestled in highschool and use valtrex for mat herpes. I get it on my temple. It looks like a cold sore on my temple. People also use Valtrex for cold sores on their lips. There are a lot of possibilities, but if you are having sex with this person, you may have genital herpes if they have it. Acyclovir is an alternative, similar to Valtrex."

T-REX Mermaid replied: "Acyclovir is administered for shingles, which is caused by the herpes virus. When a person has had chicken pox, the chicken pox remains dormant, and for people 60 + they can be prone to an outbreak of shingles. I got shingles Jan 07 and it lasted 3 months. Acyclovir is suppose to minimize the shingles. It didn't for me. Also, after the shingles subside, one can get post-herpetic pain. Nasty. The worst part is that you can get post-herpetic pain! You didn't state your friend's age. If your friend is 50 + then the drug could be for shingles. I am not familiar with valtrex. Stop snooping, you might catch something."

Unknown replied: "It can be used for "cold sores" or herpes (HSV1) on the mouth area. It might be for HSV2 (genital) but they could just use it for cold sores. I suggest not having sex with this person though EVER, just in case. Just stay friends. Dont kiss them on the mouth either, especially if you see a cold sore."
