Odin A replied: "Acne treatments - information on your complexion
Acne is a systemic inflammatory disease affecting the skin. Current statistics estimate that it is endured by 90% of adolescents, almost 50% of all adult women, and 25% of all adults, either chronically, or at some point during their lives. Acne is the most common skin affliction in the world, yet quality acne treatment is still a mystery to many sufferers. Although there is no absolute cure for acne, the treatment options available in today world make it a far more manageable condition than ever before.

Which of the following antibacterial/antiseptics do you think will be the best at slowing bacterial growth:? Which of the following antibacterial/antiseptics do you think will be the best at slowing bacterial growth:
-------------------------
Mouthwash w/ alcohol
Mouthwash w/o alcohol
antibacterial soap
non AB soap
hand sanitizer
water
penicillin
tetracycline
----------------
It's for a science lab at school.
EDIT: Sorry for not being clear enough earlier. The lab is to see which of the following will best slow growth. Here's the thing. We're letting gram+/- bacteria grow on agar plates, and then putting each of the above in each petri dish, and then see which was most affective overnight. Antiseptics will kill some, so there will be less to multiply. Antibiotics will slow the growing. So?
Jackie K replied: "It depends on the bacteria just a random guess though if you're using something like E. coli which is fairly common for high school labs the antibacterial soap or maybe the mouthwash with alcohol will do the best job killing and preventing further growth. The AB soap will probably do a better job being it's a harsher chemical that does a much "broader" job killing the bacterial instead of something like penicillin which although effective, bacteria can work around and gather immunity to it. Also the ab soap will do a better job against the gram positive bacteria (if I recall those are the ones with the additional cell wall?). Alcohol is likely to be very effective too b/c it's quite poisonous to the bacteria and it is able to diffuse across a cell membrane since it's a non-polar liquid.
although it's really up in the air, you're just going to have to find out :D"
