50 Mg Celexa Information in Questions
How long will it take me to fall asleep with Trazodone (Desyrel) 50 mg? It would be my first time taking it. I've been on Citalopram (Celexa) 10 mg for over a month now. I'm having a lot of trouble sleeping and my doctor prescribed me one pill of Trazodone/Desyrel at bedtime.

ridinon28s replied: "trazadone sux it is an antidepresent it will not put a child to sleep ask for florazapam"

Warriorpooflinger replied: "It hits me within 15 minutes on a fairly empty stomach. If it doesn't get you to sleep call your doc to up the dosage. My insomnia is really bad and I take 150 at bedtime and another 50 at 3:30 am because of some PTSD I always wake up at 3:30."

p.tokin replied: "Old fashioned stuff and an old fashioned method for sleep. What can hapen though is if you are depressed and cannot sleep because you are depressed Trazodone can "blow" you out of your depression within a few weeks and then you might sleep more normal maybe. I say maybe because psychotropics effect different people differently. Not even your doctor knows for shure how Trazodone will work for you BUT good luck and best of wishes."

fiVe replied: "I was normally out in 30-45 minutes after I took it, but it does depend some on your size and how quickly your body metabolizes it."

10 Mg of Celexa doesn't help my GAD... is there something else stronger in my price range (50 dollars)? Because I don't want to go spend another 70 dollars for a doctors visit if there isn't something stronger for anxiety around the 50 dollar a month price range... and I don't have insurance.

strayfallingstar replied: "Regardless of what you get, you are going to have to get a doctor's approval, so they may require a visit no matter what.Switching your treatment is always a matter of weighing out the benefits and risks of each type of treatment. (What side effects you are most able to deal with, etc) There are four types of drugs that are thought to help with GAD: antidepressants (celexa) benzodiazepines (xanax, etc) beta-blockers (in specific cases, not many) and buspirone Are you getting brand name Celexa? IF so, consider switching to the generic...10mg is the lowest strength available of Celexa... changing strengths of the same medication does not usually change the price by much. (especially if you do not have insurance... consider asking the doctor for a prescription for double the strength, but take half tablets. then you are paying for #15 tablets instead of #30 each month.) There are many medications which are used for the same things as celexa, but the only one which works in almost the same way is leally, anxapro.. .which is not available generically and may not take into account your need for something "stronger" you can always go the benzodiazepine (Sp?) route (ativan, xanax) they have been around longer and are available at much cheaper costs.... you may also find them stronger, but thye are controlled substances and carry a risk of dependency."

Andee replied: "The normal dosage for Celexa is 20mg and a person can even go up to 40mg. I've taken Celexa for about 5 years at a 20mg dosage. Perhaps you could try doubling your dose to 20mg and see if it helps. To help out with drug costs since you don't have insurance you can ask your doctor to prescribe a larger dosage of your medication and cut the tablets in half. This is what I do for some of my medications. Like with Celexa, I have my doctor prescribe 40mg tablets and I cut them in half to 20mg and they last 2 months. It's cheaper to buy one month of 40mg than two months of 20mg."

Can Tramadol and Celexa be taken together? I'm on 40 mg of Celexa daily, can I take a 50 mg tab of Tramadol safely??

hello replied: "You really need to SPEAK to the person who PRESCRIBED you the medication for accurate safety."

Mikey replied: "Don't gamble. Call a pharmacist who can tell you with certainty."

ckm1956 replied: "It can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Plus, you might not like the feeling. Double check with your doctor or pharmacist."

Princess Penguin replied: "don't tramadol acts as an antidepressant also consult your doctor first! you dnt want to over does it will screw u up more than fix you"

Bob Saget replied: "Don't do it, Tramadol does not mix well with most every other drug."

trazodone and celexa side effects? i have been taking 50 mg of trazadone at bedtime and 20 mg of celexa with lunch for 3 weeks. I feel drunk, unable to concentrate, confused, dizzy, blank, void of pesonality and emotion, and unlike myself! Does anyone have any idea why I would feel this way?

cassandra007 replied: "It is difficult to know which drug is causing want. Did you start them at the same time? In any case, I recommend you stop taking them, but talk to MD first."

elle replied: "Those are both low doses but my suspicion you are having some lingering effects from the bedtime trazadone. Talk to your doctor, maybe you could try a different med at bedtime to help you sleep."

LoooooooL replied: "Take it from a nurse; REGULAR AMOUNT!!!!"

fully alive? replied: "DON'T TRIPLE IT. Take the usual amount. I was taking it for the depressive factors of bipolar, but stopped when it sent me manic. In the withdrawals/missed doses I experienced extreme nausea and the return of severe depression for a period of time."

WOMEN!! Sexual side effects for lamictal, celexa, and seroquel? Since medications go by different names in different countries, I will list the 'brand' name for my country, and then the generic names as well: Celexa - Citalopram Lamictal - Lamotrigine Seroquel - Quetiapine At present, I personally take: 375 mg/day of lamictal (target is 400mg/day) 50 mg/day seroquel (as far as I know that's where it will stay) 10 mg/day celexa (I don't know target yet) How many of you are on these drugs? Do you notice any 'sexual' side effects, the only one I am concerned with is the ability to orgasm..... is it slower for you, more work or harder to do, or can't even do it at all? And if they did interfere with the orgasms, did it happen shortly after starting the medications, or did it tend to build up over time? I like my orgasms, and I hope none of these interfere too much :P

findingmyself35 replied: "I take Lamictal and I dont have any problems sexually. When a doctor tells you the side effects of a medication it goes into your subconscience. For example weight gain.......you tend to eat more because subconsciencely you know that this will happen anyway because your doctor told you you would. It is all in a persons head. Be headstrong and know what you want and you will achieve all the orgams you want! (-:"

fiVe replied: "Out of those I've only been on Lamictal, but I didn't have any side effects from it, sexual or otherwise. As far as I know, Celexa is the only one with sexual side effects listed as possible and you're not on a very high dose, so hopefully you don't have anything to worry about. I'd miss orgasms too. ;-)"

healthyfootsteps replied: "Your doctor could give you all insite w meds. Check out for free tool you can share w your doctor. It tracks meds and moods - and FREE!! HF"

physique_sec4 replied: "These medications should NOT have sexual side effects on women. But as with any medications there will be exceptions. You should see your doctor if you experience sexual side-effects out of using these drugs. Their are alternatives to each of them."

Sally M replied: "I just started taking celexa, and have found that it flattens my libido considerably. It takes much more work to stay focused and to have an orgasm. I have taken it before (for post-partum depression at that point) and found it to be true. I also know men who take celexa who also have less libido as a result. We may BOTH want to try a different antidepressant!"

Taking 10 mg of Celexa, and not seeing any results yet...? ...how long is an appropriate amount of time to wait to see if it gets rid of my anxiety before I make a doctor's appointment to try something else or an increased dose? I don't want to wait longer than I have to and I don't want to go pay 70 dollars for an appointment and have my doctor tell me I need to give it more time either, so how long should I wait? In addition, I really want to get the dose increased before next month because I want to switch to walmarts 4 dollar prescription plan and what I'm on right now is not covered so I'm paying 50 dollars a month.

jrgannapolis replied: "I started to feel "better" in about 5 days. It takes 5-8 weeks for it's full effects to kick in. It wasn't a med that worked that well for me. I take Effexor and with much more success. Celexa works much more quickly than most though."

amchaseltine replied: "you need at least 6 weeks for the full effect. im on 20 mg. but of the generic brand- Citalopram. ask your dr next time to make the generic approoved then your ins. co MAY pay for it. but it works!! good luck!"

celt replied: "I'm on 20 mg tabs. The Dr told me it would take about two weeks for them to start working."

Choking on belches and "foam" when sleeping? I have an occasional problem that is most unbearable. I wake up feeling like I'm choking to death. It starts as an innocent belch in my sleep. But the belch produces a "carbonated foam" and as soon as I swallow it I have to belch again. It can go on for minutes and repeats repeats seemingly without end. In the past, I thought it was stomach acid... but it doesn't taste nor burn like such. It just feels like someone shook up a soda in my stomach and then opened it. I've not been drinking much soda and not an hour or so before bedtime. Has ANYONE experienced this? What the heck is it? What causes it? How can I get it to stop (other than sleeping on a pillow which seems utterly impossible for me to do)? I had a sleep study done several months ago and I have mild RLS and very mild sleep apnea. I also have deuodenitis and galstones. Daily, I take 18 mg Strattera and 50 mg Celexa for anxiety. I take 200 mg Provigil as needed as well as gas-x (rarely), OTC Acid Reducer (almost daily) and 1 or 2 OTC Naproxin (almost daily). I sometimes take an allergy med before sleeping (it's that time of year *sigh*). Otherwise, I'm healthy and of normal weight. The other issues are minor complaints but I don't know if one of them may be contributing to these more frequent attacks of choking. Any ideas about what this is?

joesmart8699 replied: "This may be something you should have checked, it might be the muscle that closes your throat, has a bit of leakage. Drinking before bed will put pressure on this muscle, but other things can be producing this unpleasant event. Acid reflux is one of the many, and they are usually easy to control."

Taking Ativan/ Valium for stress? I take 60 mg Celexa and 50 mg Trazodone nightly. I've been on this for 3 years. Should I ask my Dr for .5mg Ativan 1x day to calm me down in the evenings? Would it knock me out too much to watch my kids? I', 5'6'' 128 lbs. Is .5 mg enough?

Answer Fairy replied: "It depends on you. Personally, I can take 4 times that amount and be perfectly fine, just a little more mellow. My sister takes the same amount and she sleeps for 10 hours straight. I suggest you call a sitter and try it out. Go to a friends house and see what happens to you."

Is it safe to go off antidepressants taken for almost 20 years? I've taken various types, but I am now on 20 mg celexa and 300 mg of wellbutrin. My doctors don't want to help me wean off them. They say that because I've had several episodes of major depression, and because I am 50 years old, it would be harder on my heart to go off them. Unfortunately, I am overweight and they put weight on you.
