Hi Does anyone know why caffeine makes some teenagers 14-16 very hyper..? while it has little to no affect on other teenagers the same age?
pingin_69 replied: "some ppl are effected by caffeine moreso than others.
No big mystery...
Same with drinking grog, some guys can have 4 beers, some guys are rolling on the floor drunk after 4...
it is just coz it is. Kapish?"
Pure Star replied: "Caffeine is a stimulant. The level of tolerance in an individual is a case by case thing."
olo0olo replied: "some are more sensitive to its effects. you can experience shakes, feeling cold, or even heart palpatations. Caffiene increases the blood flow causing the brain to be unable to get all of the oxygen and glucose that it needs to function properly causing a "high", also increasing blood pressure.
it also depends on how often they are exposed to caffiene. the more often you consume caffiene, the greater amount it will take for it to have any effect. ie: the body builds up a tolerance to it or just "gets used to it""
Nick Z replied: "I've read in an article at that about 55% of people cannot break down caffeine in their bodies quickly enough because of their genetic make up.
Caffeine accumulates in their bodies, when they drink more than one cup of coffee a day. And high level of caffeine in their blood is what makes them hyper.
This is true not only for teenagers but for people of all ages. And according to that article, drinking 2 or 3 cups of coffee a day can increase the risk of a heart attack for the 55% of people who metabolise caffeine slowly."
Cain replied: "The teenagers that are not affected by caffeine... yeah, so those are the ones that are doing drugs and alcohol behind your back."
The alchemist replied: "That's like asking why Ritalin slows down hyperactive kids whilst it is an amphetamine type drug. No idea, and the pharmaceuticals are not interested cause it is much more profitable this way :-)"
Caffeine Addiction in Teenagers (Survey)? I'm writing a research paper on the negative effects caffeine has on school age students, could use some help with the unique source of the Works Cited page.
Would you consider yourself a 'caffeine addict'?
Were you at any time in high school slept a lot in class?
How long did you sleep?
Do you feel that drinking caffeine affected your academics and do you think you would of achieved a higher GPA?
Just a few questions, I would really appreciate the information!
Emma replied: "I am currently in high school, but i would be happy to answer these questions..
1. Caffeine addict? at times. some days i feel that i wont be able to function properly without it (which, im pretty sure is the definition of addicted?) but some days i find that i function better WITHOUT coffee, because my brain isn't so hyperactive.
2. Sleep alot? Nope. I have fallen asleep twice in class, ever.
3. a whole period, one hour, because it was a history movie, it was boring! and the other time, for like 10 minutes.
4. I havent got a GPA yet, but i think that caffeine does not affect my work that much. If anything i find it easier to calmly concentrate on work without coffee.... Even though i have a double shot of coffee every morning..
hope i helped!"
hewasnt17 replied: "I would not consider myself an addict. I like soda, but I don't have to have it. Same with coffee drinks.
I do not sleep in class. (haha tried that once... got caught and the teacher scared me with a ruler... never fell asleep again!)
For like a minute.
No, I do not think caffeine affects my GPA. I am a good student, but caffeine doesn't have much of an affect on me, that I am aware of."
Antonia R replied: "Would you consider yourself a 'caffeine addict'?
No, I am not I don't drink much soda. Which is were most people our age get caffeine highs and in energy drinks too.
Were you at any time in school slept a lot in class?
Never.
How long did you sleep?
Caffeine gives me a crash so I usually drink it hours before my bedtime, but never to wake me. Mine is a small dose usually in green tea if I do need a pick me up.
Do you feel that drinking caffeine affected your academics and do you think you would of achieved a higher GPA?
I have straight A's and do fine in school."
How can I know if I'm allergic to caffeine? Does anybody suffer from it? This are the symptoms that I have. If I drink dark soda or coffee, but drink decaf only. I feel like I'm choking and get nervous. I'll always felt nervous with caffeine since I was a teenager, but it has gotten worst now I feel a choking feeling in my throat.
Jackson A replied: "get tested at a clinic, you probably just have a low tolerance, i would stay away from caffeinated drinks though, they're bad for you anyway"
Tom L replied: "go to your doctor and have them refer you to an allergy specialist"
niktennischick replied: "I'm allergic too and I just stay away from it. It's unhealthy for you anyways."
pennypincher replied: "Your symptoms are different from mine. I get tachycardia even from a cup of tea. I cannot drink anything with more than 25 mg. of caffeine in it. However, sometimes the symptoms take nearly 24 hours to appear. The last time I drank a Mountain Dew, I got so sleepy that I could not keep my eyes open and I had to take a nap. It knocked me out for a few hours. It is sometimes the next day when I get the tachycardia."
What can cause hand tremors in teenagers? im eighteen, and have been getting so many hand tremors. i can remember getting them from when i was sixteen, but they seem to be more frequent now. i do not drink any caffeine as i hate soda, and coffee. i only drink water. and i do not take any drugs, and have never taken them. they shake pretty bad.
adam replied: "Are you eating a well-balanced diet? Lack of important vitamins and minerals can mess you up. Fresh veggies, grains, legumes, fruits, etc? You should be including a lot of those. Stay away from chemicals, i.e. sweeteners, caffeine (like you said) smoking, drugs, medication, etc."
Honey replied: "It could be a sign of something more serious or start of. See a doctor immediately and let them give you the answer to your question. Good Luck"
drsslave replied: "First thing I would do is get a physical....Thyroid problems can cause hand temors."
is it possible to overdose on caffeine? How much caffine can a teenager (130pounds) need to drink before they get hurt? Can you get hurt from too much? how much is too much? Can you drink more caffeine if your older? or can you drink more caffeine if you weigh more? or both.......how did you figure that?
thanks.(sorry so many questions)
Hey chief mark. yes i am on caffeine and i do take alot. today i've drank too energy drink. i just was asking because i have to write a paper. and i love coffee, and pop, and sometimes tea. and YES caffeine makes me happy so i drink lots. and i have ADD.
Chef Mark replied: "Are you on caffeine now? How much did you take? Do you normally take that much? Have you ever had more? Do you usually ask that many questions on caffeine? How many questions do you ask when you haven't had caffeine? Does caffeine make you ask lots of stupid quesions?"
MLBfreek35 replied: "It is very possible to OD on caffeine because it is a drug, and you need to recognize that. If you weigh more, you can have more, but its best not to push it."
Mike Woz replied: "Yes it is possible. When I was in high school I read that if you took enough caffeine pills (no-doz), you could hallucinate. I took about ten and started throwing up within an hour and had a horrible headache for about a week (I had to miss school).
Several cups of coffee shouldn't hurt you in the short term, but may cause negative long term effects if you have too much over a long period of time.
The more you weigh, the more you can have."
Are kids and teenagers school lunches offering any healthier options compared to about 10 years ago? I eat pretty healthy now. Mostly vegan actually. lots of fruits and veggies, tofu, some chocolate. Vitamins, water and of course my occasional sweet and or caffeine. ;) But I remember how awful school lunches were and how sluggish I and others felt. Have they gotten any better? My mom was watching a show on Oprah yesterday about this, and it kind of concerned me. Is there any way people can help?
Sean F replied: "No, now its either the artery clogging slop or rabbit food."
Amber replied: "Well I am 23 and I remember when I was in school the lunches were disgusting. The food tasted like cardboard, and was often stale. On the other hand, my parents used to tell me when they were in school back in the day the lunches were delicious. Everything was made from scratch, fresh and real, nothing fake about the food at all.
I don't plan on having kids but I do hope that the lunches have gotten better. Perhaps get some real cooks in the schools again. Perhaps a fresh salad bar and different food options cooked fresh served everyday."
The older I get, the less my body can handle caffeine. Is there a reason for this? When I was a teenager I could down Starbuck's frappucino's like a champ. Today in my 20's, a simple 12 oz. cup of caffeinated coffee leaves me shaky, nauseous, and paranoid. Is there a reason for my body's increasing aversion to caffeine?
Jk N replied: "first i gotta sat something befor i answer you are soooo cute i want to hug you. OK about that you have to chose"
Lanosrep Noitamrofni♁ replied: "Yes. It seems the older we get the less resistance we have to fighting everything. Caffeine being a drug, as a stimulant will increase heart rate which can lead to the other symptoms you are experiencing. It's just your body's way of saying enough. I've gone through the same changes in my 20's as well."
♥Noelly♥ replied: "aww well you could have a few things, high blood pressure, low sugar levels and a few others. do those things run in your family?? I would call your doctor and get tested its best to catch things early now a days=]hope this helps good luck && best wishes=]"
dymond replied: "Caffeine actually builds up in your kidneys also causes calcium deposits in your kidneys, this could be one reason your reacting to it now where you didn't a few years ago.It could also be your diet, reaction to a medication your taking, the amount of physical activity your getting.A simple thing like taking birth control pills can affect the way your body metabolizes caffeine. Many medications contain caffeine and more taken in the form of liquids or foods including chocolate can cause this reaction. You may be ingesting it when you don't realize it and adding more messes you up."
JAVA MONSTER???!!! TOO MUCH CAFFEINE? Today I went 2 the grocery store and bought a can of Java monster Loca Moca.. I LOVED IT! But I heard there is TOOO much caffeine for teenagers so I drink half of it and my mom drink half of it.. Do you think drinking half of this will still be too much caffeine?
Break Dance, Not Hearts! replied: "The can actually says that it is two servings so you should be fine. Drinking them on a regular bases isnt a good idea."
Me Want Cookie! replied: "i drink them all the time im fine
but im not sensitive to caffeine"
Can too much Caffeine substitute Ephedrine? This is only for educational purposes because my school is trying to to ban coffee from people under 18 on campus since there seems to be a lot of Amphetamine usage at my school. Especially methamphetamine and its driving the teenagers crazy making them want to kill people...
Anyway, as far as I know. Ephedra is the main ingredient to making Meth and I heard from what the teachers are telling the teenagers that people have actually used the used coffee filters to create meth. .
anybody know the answer to this?
jennilaine777 replied: "Coffee has caffeine, a very natural substance that can help asthmatics and people with ADHD.
A kid or adult with ADHD has a brain moving faster than their body can keep up. When they take ridalin or coffee, it speeds up their body to match their brain, and are able to function better.
If someone is having an asthma attack, give them coffee. It opens everything up naturally.
Pseudoephedrine or Ephedrine is what they use in meth, and that is a chemical created to have the same effects as it's natural counterpart: Ephedra, a plant.
A meth addict might go after some caffeine in order to mask the craving for meth. But it is not a substitute.
No, you cannot use coffee beans as a substitute for ephedrine in crystal meth."
Joe C replied: "caffeine does not substitute ephedrine, the filters are prolly used as filters when making meth... idk....
but yeah, caffeine is bad for people, one soda has more caffeine than you should have in a week... so embrace the ban, its for your good...
not to mention all that sugar and almost 200 calories a can
and as far as caffeine being good for ADHD people, you must not be a doctor because I'm premedical and all the psychiatrists I've talked to about ADHD say to stay away from caffeine... (I have ADHD and am now on medication for it)"
Teenager on caffeine (coffee): is it safe? I'm 17 years old and I'm not addicted to caffeine.
I don't drink coffee in the afternoon or the evening.
But lately, I have been drinking coffee for 6 mornings a week for 3 weeks so as to stay awake when attending my 7:30am classes.
I can't help but doze off no matter how much sleep I get at night.
I only use about half a teaspoon of powdered coffee a day and it's enough for me to last the morning. I plan on doing this for the rest of the semester (about 3 and 1/2 months).
My question is, is it safe and will it not greatly affect my health in the future? I'm not feeling any bad side-effects at the moment (dizziness, headaches, etc.)
Thanks! Ü
Sandra N replied: "Just don't drink it after noon and you'll be fine. If you do, it'll hurt your sleep rhythm well into adulthood."
syk8858 replied: "you should be fine! A cup of coffee everyday is proven to be good for your health!"
Kurana replied: "I'm 18, and HATE coffee. =( Maybe one day."
Falcon P replied: "No it won't hurt you but tea is better =)"
