Eliminate Caffeine Information in Questions
If you are pregnant or have been pregnant, did you have caffeine while pregnant, or reduce/eliminate caffeine? Just wondering because I have read about some concerns about excessive caffeine intake but also wonder about any caffeine intake during pregnancy. Thanks.

galaxie replied: "Studies show that caffeine intake over 300mg per day may increase chances of miscarriage. With my first pregnancy and this one (I am 14 weeks) I have one 24 oz. diet pepsi per day or every other day. That's about 75 mg of caffeine. My first baby was PERFECT and this one is fine so far :)"

Pregnant with girlie <3 replied: "Everything in moderation, i have a can of coke everyday, but they say no more then 3 cups of coffee in a day, hope this helps!"

*Twiztid Ninjette* replied: "I had caffeine the whole way through my pregnancy. Cut back in the first trimester, but after that continued to drink it as normal. My doctors even told me,just do NOT increase the amount of caffeine you take in,and it should be fine. The only reason they worry about soda and such is because it puts more weight on the mom to lose, and it's really hard. My doctor told me to just not take in any more than normal, and it should be fine. Caffeine doesn't effect me though,or keep me awake or anything. I drank folger's 1/2 caff coffee everday, and had a few sodas as well. I did have some caffeine free as backup for just when I wanted the taste, and didn't want the caffeine."

Linzy's wee man due March 2 replied: "They recommend no more than 2 cups of tea/coffee a day or up to 4 12oz cans of caffeinated cola. I have been craving pepsi lately (usually am a coke drinker) I limit it to 1-2 cans a day if any. But my baby is well developed by now and the caffeine makes him kick and squirm lol The first trimester is when to really avoid caffeine as it can cause miscarriage. I didn't touch a drop in the first trimester because I have had a miscarriage and was being really careful. Anyway the second I found out I was pregnant I switched to decaf tea."

Vicky C replied: "You can have caffeine but no more than 300mg a day. This is about 3 mugs of coffee and 6cups of tea. Remember caffeine is found in coffee, tea, fizzy drinks and chocolate. More than 300mg a day is said to cause miscarriages and still births x"

lilmomma24 replied: "I acutally just talked to my doctor about this as I use to drink a lot of coffee and or soda during the day to keep me going. He told me not to cut out caffine completely but to scale back to one cup a day & one soda. If you cut it out completely it will lead to migraines & possibly feeling sicker to your stomach than you are already LOL. If your an avid soda drinker they recommend caffine free if possible. Don't worry you don't have to cut it out completely."

New Mommy in May replied: "Before I got pregnant I LIVED for my morning cup of coffee, and thought that there was NO way I could go without it. But now, I am 12 weeks and just have NO desire for it. I have drank hot apple cider which has no caffeine, but yes, I have reduced my intake tremendously. I know that it's ok to have a little bit, which is good for me because i will have the occasional can of diet coke."

what are the best way to eliminate & avoid feeling sleepy besides sleep and take caffeine? i am feeling sleepy everytime i back home from school at 1 p.m (most malaysia school end at 1 p.m).i can not sleep because i always have lots of homework to be done. so,what are the best way to eliminate & avoid feeling sleepy besides sleep and take caffeine? do not recommend me to take drugs.i do want drugs do not recommend me to take drugs.i do *not want drugs

Kristina replied: "Despite some of your more intelligent answers of taking drugs to avoid drowsiness. DUH. The best way is to eat healthier and excercise... you would be amazed at how much more awake and energetic you feel."

nora a replied: "Do some light exercise to get the blood pumping."

The "Spence" replied: "Tumble instead of walking"

Happy replied: "Do some light exercise and don't eat so much food for lunch."

h2odog replied: "try a sublingual vitamin B complex"

Laurie V replied: "According to a new study, one of the best ways to avoid drowsiness during the day is to get about 20-30 minutes of direct sunlight. This helps to regulate the body's hormones and internal clock. Therefore, you might try doing your homework outside or do some chores outside before beginning your homework. Hope this helps."

Answer replied: "I do some exercises like doing weight lifting to avoid being sleepy. You can do the exercise using dumble and doing your homework together. I think you have problem on studying, either you don't like the subject you are studying or the subject is not really interesting. Like me, i do some exercise and focus. Just buy the dumble for RM 50.00 at Tesco. :)"

Trey Adams replied: "Regular exercise. Get enough sleep at night. What's wrong with a 30 minute nap?"

Lee replied: "ok. I work and even if I now I have lots of work to do, i make it to the point nd take atleast a 15-20 minute nap. you may find this ridiculous but it is a good routine. you are sleepy because you just had your lunch and tired for the morning classes. I would suggest that you get disciplined in taking a nap for 15 -20 minutes before you get back to your homework. Be disciplined to bring yourself up and running when your alarm clock sounds off. It has been working for me now for more than a year and I don't use an alarm clock anymore. At first it will seem hard but just lay back and close your eyes and stop thinking of your homework - you can also call it your relax time. giving yourself to take a few minutes of rest can keep you more energized to do your home work. They key point here is discipline. and by the way... I don't drink coffee, I prefer milk."

skynotblue replied: "The same thing happened to me when I was studying too. When you feel sleepy, leave your desk and look for a glass of cold water. Have a break every 90 minutes to - put your clothes into the washing machine. - spare 5 minutes to clean your room. - lay down in bed and do like you're riding a bicycle. The back needs a little rest too after the whole morning in class, so this is good and it helps to flat your stomach too. - watch a short funny movie from the internet or CD (10 minutes)"

jayaraman m replied: "Your problem is very simple and you can overcome it easily. I would not suggest any medication for you. To start with immediately after comming from school you take bath in cold water and then have light food (Not stomach full so that you feel sleepy) and do your home works. Secondly start practicing the principal - wake early and go to bed early. You will find it difficult initially but after some days you will get accustomed. Have healthy food at fixed time. You will find the desired change in couple of months."

Patti C replied: "Get in the fresh air and go for a walk. Do something with a friend. I know you said you had a lot of homework, but you will be able to pay better attention to it if you are awake and alert. So take the time to do some exercise and get some air. Take at least an hour if you can. You will be surprised at how much this helps you. Why in the world do they give you so much homework? Is it because school gets out so early? I don't really think you need to have that much homework, but I guess you can't change that. Good luck to you."

bark_larky replied: "after going back from school, take a bath. watch some tv programmes while doing your homework. i've done that and it worked. (i am good at watching tv while doing my homework). duh, u do ur homework while ur having the commercial break, that is.. believe me, if u tried everything and it failed, just dont fidget. get urself some healthy food in each meal. supplement of vitamin B would help, and take a good night sleep. good luck."

IQ replied: "Exercise ..."

mrcricket1932 replied: "What are you eating for breakfast or do you pass it up to get to school?"

justthinkin replied: "go out and exercise for a bit get you heart rate up. That should help."

cooldude replied: "Keep your feet immersed in a small tub of cold water, while you are sitting up and doing your homework. This will ensure you do not fall asleep."

dgraham302000 replied: "Alot of people are sleepy after eating a heavy meal try eating a lighter lunch"

William A replied: "I always try chewing gum when I'm driving and feel tired. Maybe this will help you too?"

brotherjohnsfo replied: "I have 2 things that i would like you to see your Doctor about the first is Sleep Apnoea, especially if you are a little overweight, and the second is that you are run down and need a good natural multi-vitamin they are not drugs and made from natural ingredients, Good Luck, with both your life and studies"

Stephen Beck replied: "Take a drive in the winter time and keep the window down so that the cold air hits your face."

paul c replied: "could be dietary check the supplements athletes use for stamina and endurance or you might have hyperglycemia"

Goody2shoes2 replied: "Vervain Tea, this tea isn't a drug.. it's a herb. Too much however can cause you insomnia and the answer to that take the Tea.. Valerian. Valerian too much of that tea makes you sleepy all the time. You might just try Green Tea also called Oolong tea.. a tea most chinese drink to prevent sleepiness!"

Do diaretics like caffeine cause you to eliminate calories before burning them? I've been told diaretics like caffeine or alcohol cause you to urinate away calories before you can burn them. Say for example you drink an energy drink with 100 calories--does your body take in and proccess all 100 or do you pass some amount of it instead? Basically I'm wondering if when you drink something like an energy drink, are you really taking in as many calories as listed on the can?

J B replied: "No, you do not pass calories out in urine. Your body keeps those calories and if they contain sugars of any kind, stores them as fat. Only the water in the drink is passed out as urine."

Stephanie S replied: "Yes, you get all of the calories listed on the can, and no you do not pass the calories in your urine. Calories come from the fuel sources in food that our body uses to make energy. Energy drinks contain lots of sugar which our body uses rapidly to make sugar, so that it can provide a quick sugar high. This is the worst kind of energy and will leave you depleted and needing more shortly afterwards. Similarly, fats and proteins provide a source of energy for the body as well. Alcohol provides energy, even more so than sugars, and there are also lots of sugars in alcohol besides the ethanol. The energy in alcohol is used and so you use those calories. When discussing caffeine, if you drink coffee or tea without any milk or sugar, then there are no calories. So, you can drink as much tea or coffee as you like, but don't add any sugar or milk, and that way you can get the energy boost from the caffeine without adding to your caloric intake. However, again, the high you get from caffeine over time becomes a dependency and it's better to just naturally have energy from building up your endurance rather than drinking energy drinks or caffeine."

just me replied: "When you drink an energy drink all you are loosing is vital nutrients. the caffiene depletes minerals and vitamins from the body as well as dehydrates. If you want an energy building, calorie burning drink... blend fresh fruits and berries or mixed vegetables etc. into a smoothie. stay away from the energy drinks, there is no energy in them just stress on the adrenal glands..."

tlldob replied: "Substances that act as diaretics such as caffeine and alcohol make you urinate more. You do not eliminate calories through urination. Calories can only be burned by metabolism or activity. So if you drink something that has 100 calories, you body will either use the calories via the above mantioned methods or will convert them to fat for storage if your intake of calories is higher than your usage."

Moms-did you eliminate caffeine and artificial sweeteners when you were pregnant? OK, I can live without artificial sweeteners, but caffeine???

Insanity is contagious replied: "yez i did my baby was worth it......"

sailzar replied: "they say that you can safly have 3 cups of coffee a day. so thats what i stick to"

cherry_kissez376 replied: "Yes, caffiene makes me sick to my stomach each time I drink it. I don't know about artificial sweetners though, I never used them before my pregnany so I definately don't use them right now while I am pregnant."

amber waves of grain replied: "Yes. I eliminated anything I knew would be harmful. I also eliminated things I knew I shouldn't eat while breastfeeding during my pregnancy. I was rewarded with virtually no weight gain and a very healthy baby."

reneaumommy replied: "I have. but i know others who do not. I figure ill do whatever it takes for my baby. I used to drink diet coke all day long everyday and i havent had any since the day i found out i was pregnant at 3 1/2 weeks (positive test even before a missed period)"

Teri replied: "try splenda as an artifical sweetner its better and made of real sugar...i personally love it. i havent eliminated caffine because i have diabetes and cant drink juices or things like that (the dr told me in my case i would be fine and caffine and artifical sweetners would be the least of his worries with me)"

lilheif replied: "I have cut out caffeine, but I never heard anything about artificial sweeteners, I'm not gonna lie tho, I cheated and had a soda today! Once in a while is ok, my dr. actually said one cup of coffee a day is fine. But after just having a miscarriage, I don't want to take any risks. It's your call..."

ReRe replied: "My best friend just had her baby two weeks ago today and she gave up both. It was really hard for her because she is a Starbucks addict, but she started drinking a lot of the Snapple tea and water. I think you can do it, just try to remove yourself from temptation. Good luck!!"

Andrea C replied: "shoot no!! cut down on it but its all good. i was drinking one that i had hid when i was in labor."

Silva replied: "I was sick until week 17 so I really didn't feel like coffee anymore, it was really gross throwing coffee up. And I didn't really get a taste back for it until about 6 months after my son was born. But as a rule, pregnant or not, I limit myself to one caffeine drink a day - it's terrible for your metabolism anyway. As for artificial sweeteners, I never use them especially ones that are aspartame - a carcinogen. No thanks."

Kristi replied: "I drink 2 cups of coffee a day. Or 1 cup and 1 soda. Artificial sweetner is bad--your body doesn't know how to process it properly. The most I will have is like a sip of my husbands soda if I'm really thirsty."

buckskinbabydoll replied: "I had a cup of coffee a few times a week. However, I did keep it to one cup a day."

Josie826 replied: "I cut back, but did not cut it out. I am a Diet Coke nut. Got to have my Diet Coke."

Chasmin S replied: "I switched from my regular old pepsi and colas to organic rootbeer and I've never been fond of artificial sweeteners. You should try organic cane sugar instead."

Doodlestuff replied: "I didn't do without either, but it wasn't a concern at the time. Today, I would keep my coffee to 2-3 cups and use artificial sweetener in that. It's the only thing I DO use artificial sweetener in. Using sugar wouldn't be to my advantage since I'm at risk for Gestational Diabetes."

stubsoh replied: "I did everything the same. Drank pepsi, ate fast food, ice cream, anything I wanted and she came out fine!!!"

Starsfan14 replied: "Yes I did- I don't use artifical sweeteners anyway- I went down to cup or two of caffeine a day Actually it wasn't that bad expect I really wanted lots of iced tea in the summer. It is so hot here in Texas during the summer and iced tea is basically our state drink."

tech_girl_78 replied: "I was a big coffee drinker mostly those wonderful ice blended sugar filled types. I was having coffee 2-3 times a day and I cut back to one a day when I was pregnant. However during the first four months I had such morning sickness I couldn't stomach even the smell of coffee, or garlic, or onions lol Anyways I have a beautiful 8 month old daughter and she is a beautiful happy and healthy baby :) I personally don't care for artificial sweeteners."

jojom replied: "I have eliminated both...i just think the better things you can put in your body the better for the baby. But if you absolutely cannot live without caffiene a little each day is fine according to my doctor."

How long does caffeine stay in the body? Earlier this afternoon I drank half a liter of milk tea (that is, black tea + milk). I am not a regular drinker of caffeinated drinks whatsoever, but now I want to rest a bit but I think my min is quite hyperactive. Will drinking more water eliminate the caffeine in my body faster? How long does the caffeine stay in my body?

Snowflakes replied: "It usually stays for 6 hours but if you are not used to drinking caffeine then the effects can be much more stronger. I don't know if water will flush it out, it might help. Maybe if you have some warm milk it'll help you fall asleep, or if you eat some foods that make you feel sleepy like starchy foods like potatoes or a sandwich."

How does caffeine eliminates the sensation of sleep and tiredness? Could you give me the physiological or quemical explanations?

greengunge replied: "it is a stimulant"

Doies anyone know about the common symptoms of caffeine withdrawal? I drink abut 10 servings a day & I'm? addicted. I was told to reduce or eliminate caffeine from my life. told to reduce or eliminate it from my life.

moneydude524 replied: "you're gonna want caffeine. and you'll probably have a splitting headache for a day or two."

007butterfly replied: "I should say cut down slowly, like reduce half a cup daily or even a full cup weekly. I doubt it if you would have any withdrawal then. Go cold turkey- anxiety, irritability, headache, shaikiness for about 3 days."

If caffeine is bad for cramps, why does Midol have caffeine in it? I have been told that you can minimize menstrual cramps by reducing the intake of caffeine or eliminating it completely from the diet during your period, but one of the active ingredients in Midol is caffeine. I am so confused.

Foxalot replied: "Caffeine is important to the body if you regularly use it. Not having it can make you sick if you are used to it."

Cathy F replied: "I was totally confused about this as well. I'm told the caffeine in Midol is equivalent to a small cup of coffee and is for those who suffer from extreme fatique during their cycle. I guess excessive caffeine is what you should avoid."

Tara662 replied: "Because some women/girls don't know many pills have ingredients they don't need. Another brand (I think it's Pamprin) has a antihistamine in it! It's all marketing. The caffeine and other unneeded ingredients is the main reason I use the CVS brand PMS medicine instead of Midol and Pamprin. It only has Acetaminophen and two diuretics."
