generic drug to help with seroquel side effect? I have been taking seroquel for a couple of months now and still feel tired during the day. my doctor has tried different dosage but I still feel tired all day long. what generic drug would you recommend to reduce this side effect? thanks.

Kevin W replied: "caffeine, and/or nicotine. If you don't smoke I recomend to not start, but it can get you in a rythm, and help to not focus on how absolutely tired you might get."

Seroquel, a presciption brand name for the generic drug Quetiapine was prescribed to my wife to help her sleep? According to "The Pill Book" Seroquel is an anti-psychotic drug. Normal dosage according to The Pill Book is 150- to 750-mg per day. My wife has been given eight 50-mg tablets and has only taken five. in the last month. She is still concerned over its addictiveness. They do help her sleep and increases her appetite.

luvsgummybears replied: "I've never heard of it being for sleeping, but it sure will knock her out. Is she bipolar or something? Yes they do cause weight gainfor some people but I'm pretty sure they're not addictive like a sleeping pill, though anything that you rely on to go to sleep could make you "addicted" in a way"

Sarah C replied: "Seroquel isn't really addictive. It is not a controlled substance. It is labeled and sold as an antipsychotic, but it also causes sedation. A lot of drugs can be used for multiple effects, including ones that they are not marketed for. Again, I wouldn't be concerned about the addictiveness and she is receiving such a small dose that I don't think any side effects would be too concerning either."

Lisa A replied: "It's my personal opinion that it's malpractice to use this drug off label as a sleeping pill. Yeah, you'll sleep. But it's not good sleep. And you should look up the side effects of this drug. The benefits do not outweigh the risks for use as a sleeping pill."

Az R replied: "Part of Seroquel's inherent utility as an antipsychotic is that it is incredibly sedating, more so than just about any other drug in the class. Its sedative properties could be more potent than something in the benzo class, but they're far too different to really compare them. Because it's so sedating, it finds 'off label' use as a sleep aid at very low doses. The low doses minimize the risks of side effects from the drug, which can be quite unpleasant. It's got the addictive potential of table salt, if that. It's not abusable, it's not dependency forming in any way shape or form, and you don't really develop a tolerance to it. Unless your wife has some sort of history involving abuse of every substance she can get her hands on, there's no potential for addiction here."

omgosh2008 replied: "Its a mood stablizer and sedative. Those class of drugs make you sleepy. Sleeping pills are sedatives along w/ alcohol. I was once taking 50 mg in the morning and 100 mg at bedtime when I was 14 thru 16. (I was also taking it with 150 mg of Effexor XR once a day). It did make me gain weight (food had a wonderful taste and regret now how big I've gottn during that time) and slepted everytime I took it. It's like my body would never get immune to fight the sleepiness. Everytime I've slepted like a baby."

Has anyone ordered generic Seroquel (or others) by Cipla pharmaceuticals in India? Are they legit? ? I take Seroquel due to my chronic insomnia. It is absolutely the only thing that works for me. I can take three times the maximum prescribed dosage for Ambien and it has no effect. My physician has tried over 10 different medications for my insomnia and Seroquel is the ONLY one that works, so switching is not an option. Unfortunately I just lost prescription coverage and found out when I went to fill my Seroquel that it costs $358.00 ($299.00 with a discount card), which I cannot afford. No generics are available in the U.S., but there is a pharmaceutical company in India called Cipla that makes a generic which is about 85% cheaper. I have researched this company online and haven't found anything negative about the quality of its medications so far. Has anyone had experience with them with any meds; generic seroquel or otherwise? What were your thoughts? Thank you so much!!

Love Baseball replied: "I have been buying generics manufactured in India for years now. I use a site based in England called because they carry a large inventory of different meds. You are doing the right thing by doing your own research. Pick a real company and you will be fine with it, and amazed by the price difference"

I take advair, seroquel, and lexapro, what would be the closest in generic medication? looking for equals for brand name meds for generics

Aldebaran replied: "Celexa is the generic of Lexapro"

I am a U.S. citizen thinking of ordering Seroquel online from Canada. Can you please help with a question? In the U.S. there is no generic available for Seroquel. It is made by Astra Zeneca. And Astra Zeneca also manufactures Seroquel in Canada. But some Canadian pharmacies offer a generic for Seroquel. These Seroquel generics are munufactured around the world in various countries. Should I get the real thing from the canadian pharmacy (Seroquel manufactured in Canada by Astra Zeneca) or should I take my chances on ordering a generic from the Canadian pharmacies? There certainly is a price difference but I don't know if I should trust anything that is manufactured outside the U.S. or Canada.

Eric H replied: "Pharmacies in Canada are very strictly regulated. So you're safe as long as it's a legitimate pharmacy. Check their credentials carefully, though. (And you'll need a prescription for the generic drug from your doctor - the pharmacy must have it to fill the order). If they tell you not to worry about the prescription, that's a good sign that they're bogus."

Ack! Are there any generic Bipolar meds left? I've had bad experiences with seroquel, risperdal, lithium, trileptal, and lamictal. I need something, but I really can't afford a brand name med right now, and my Dr. doesn't have samples. Besides depakote, is there anything left that's available as a generic?

Amanda replied: "I take Neurontin, and it works GREAT, If you can get a prescription for it, then have your Dr or maybe even you can go to the pfizer website and sign up for connection to care, and you will get 3 months for free, every 3 months, Neurontin is used for seizures and nerve pain, but its been used for bi-polar. If you need anymore info you can email me"

Other options for Seroquel? I take 300mgs of seroquel a night for anger problems, but my insurance doent cover the 300 dollar-a-bottle fee, and there is no generic form. Is there any other meds out there that could work like Seroquel does? Thanks everybody

bettyboop replied: "You need to talk to the dr. ordering the prescription. He can decide which would be better for you...."

alesthikka replied: "Personally, I abhor Seroquel. It's a horrible medication. Have you tried speaking to your psychiatrist about it? They understand insurance can be a right pain, and are usually all too willing to change a medication if you can't afford it."

poison replied: "Lithium is used to treat bi-polar and anger is also a symptom of bi-polar. I take it and it works well. You can purchase the generic for around five bucks with insurance or maybe a little more."

spadeusdorkus replied: "ok if i remember right seroquel is primarily used for bipolar disorder or schizophrenia ... anger problems are way to vague do you have a dx? i am assuming you need a mood stabilize what about depakote or something like that or for bipolar lithium there are so many out there best to tell your doc you just cant afford it and thank the us for the high costs of meds. good luck"

Pick a Winner replied: "Geodon, abilify, zyprexa, and risperdal, just to name a few drugs that are on the same class as seroquel."

♥RoNiCe♥ replied: "I take 200mgs of seroquel every night, when I didn't have insurance the clinic I went to had free samples they would give me of Risperdal that was supposed to help with my symptoms, I have also tried Geodon, I had a bad reaction to Abilify when my tongue swelled up & I had to go to the Emergency Room. I always end up going back to seroquel because it is the only medication that seems to work. Luckily I have Medicare/Medicaid now, so all my prescriptions are covered."

answergrrl replied: "I have the same problem so my doctor prescribes it in two prescriptions. He prescribes 100mgs and 200mgs. I have to pay two copays but it works that way."

Seroquel substitutions? I was wondering is there any other medications like seroquel that is not as expensive. I have been on this for over a year and a half but now I can not afford it. So I was just wanting to know if there is a generic for it or something similar. I have been on so many different anti-depressants that did not work and this is the only thing that I have found.

db2byl replied: "Quetiapine is the generic form of Seroquel. See if the doctor can write for that."

Knick A replied: "If seroquel is working for you, and other treatment hasn't, I would be very wary of trying to switch to another medication. Unfortunately, sometimes the only drug that works is expensive - unfair, but reality."
